BMTA ACTIVITY CALENDAR

BMTA normally schedules four or five hikes per month, some “leisure” hikes that are shorter and easier and some 5 to 8 miles and of moderate difficulty. In addition, we have occasional backpacking hikes and more difficult ones that might be called “hardy hikes.” Occasionally we co-sponsor hikes with other organizations. Some, but not all, of our hikes are “dog friendly.” Although more hikes are in Georgia than the other states, you will find hikes in all three BMT states: Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

September 23 TN/NC Maintenance Trip

When:   Saturday, September 23, 2023
Where:  Sections 13b Childers Creek to Big Bend
Time:  9:00 AM
Meeting Location: Big Bend Recreation area near Reliance TN.

Plan for the Day: Light brushing, removal of deadfall and light tread work. This will be a very easy work trip and we should be off the trail in 3-4 hours.  We may flex over to 13c or 13d if we have enough volunteers.

What to Bring/What to Wear:  Water, food/snacks, gloves, long pants and boots with non-slip soles. Bring safety glasses and hard hats if you have them. PPE will be provided for those without.

This is a beautiful portion of trail!

A Message from Nelson –

This section of trail will be used for one of the organized hikes to be held in conjunction with BMTA’s Annual Meeting and Hike Fest. This is a great opportunity to tidy it up before the meeting and a great excuse to stretch your legs along the Hiwassee River. There’s a plethora of hikes and events planned so please consider participating in the Annual Meeting and Hike Fest set for November 2-5, 2023, in Tellico Plains, TN.
