Fireworks are ALWAYS prohibited in national forests regardless of weather or conditions! The Chattahoochee, Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests have fire restrictions in effect. A park-wide fire ban is in effect for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

BMTA ACTIVITY CALENDAR

BMTA normally schedules four or five hikes per month, some “leisure” hikes that are shorter and easier and some 5 to 8 miles and of moderate difficulty. In addition, we have occasional backpacking hikes and more difficult ones that might be called “hardy hikes.” Occasionally we co-sponsor hikes with other organizations. Some, but not all, of our hikes are “dog friendly.” Although more hikes are in Georgia than the other states, you will find hikes in all three BMT states: Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

BMT Series: Weaver Creek to Boardtown Road

BMT Series: Weaver Creek to Boardtown Road. This series is part of the BMTA/GATC series. The hike starts at Weaver Creek. In 2.5 miles, the trail crosses US 76/515 and enters Cherry Log Mountain subdivision. We will cross the lowest point on the BMT in Georgia (1540′), pass the Indian Rock Shelter (at 4.2 miles), climb Patterson Mountain (2300′), and finish at Boardtown Road. Moderate 6.4 miles. Shuttle required.
