BMTA ACTIVITY CALENDAR

BMTA normally schedules four or five hikes per month, some “leisure” hikes that are shorter and easier and some 5 to 8 miles and of moderate difficulty. In addition, we have occasional backpacking hikes and more difficult ones that might be called “hardy hikes.” Occasionally we co-sponsor hikes with other organizations. Some, but not all, of our hikes are “dog friendly.” Although more hikes are in Georgia than the other states, you will find hikes in all three BMT states: Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

December 14, 2024, GA-TN/NC Maintenance Trip

Georgia Crew

When:  Saturday, December 14, 2024
Where:  Section 9a-b-c – Dyer Gap >> Watson Gap
Time:  8:30 AM
Meeting Location:  Home Depot, Hwy 5 Blue Ridge GA. Consolidate vehicles and travel to Watson Gap.

Plan for the Day:  Assemble volunteers into two crews. The focus is to clean out 40 water diversions. Crews will meet in the middle and return to their vehicles.

  • Crew 1:  Will work from the north end of 9a Watson Gap
  • Crew 2:  Will work from the south end of 9a at Dyer Gap

 

Tennessee Crew

When:  Saturday, December 14, 2024
Where:  Section 11d – Hwy 221 SB for 2 miles
Where:  Section 12d – Lost Creek Campground SB
Time:  8:30 AM
Meeting Location:  Thunder Rock Campground.  Consolidate vehicles and travel to work sites.

Plan for the Day:  Assemble volunteers and divide into two crews.

  • Crew 1:  Crosscut team to remove 5 blowdowns on 11d.
  • Crew 2:  Chainsaw team to remove five blowdowns, brush and clear with weed eaters, loppers and hand saws on 12d.

Please indicate your willingness to join the Tennessee work crew.

What to Bring/What to Wear:  Water, food/snacks, gloves, long pants and boots with non-slip soles. Bring safety glasses, hard hats and hand tools if you have them. PPE will be provided for those without.
